Confused INSTAGRAM Reels? We got you!

Instagram Reels are a way to tap into culture and find new audiences. They're an extension of Instagram Stories, but they have more of a focus on discovery—so if you're trying to get discovered by new customers, it's an excellent tool for that. In fact, if you're using Stories and not posting Reels, you might be missing out on an opportunity.

Reels aren't right for every brand, but they're great if you want to reach a younger audience who is already embracing them in droves. Think: Gen Z and Millennials. They're also great if you want to show off how popular your brand is among influencers or celebrities. If those things sound like they might fit with your content strategy, then it may be time to dip your toes into the world of Instagram Reels!

  1. QUALITY MATTERS. Use inspiring video edited with high-quality imagery to create visually compelling Reels.

  2. TYPOGRAPHY. Think like a designer when adding type to your Reels. This should not be an afterthought and should be on brand and well-balanced to feel professional and intentional.

  3. TRENDING MUSIC. Pay attention to music that is trending on Instagram as a way to get started. But don’t force it. If the music doesn’t fit, find something that matches the vibe of the video vs. adopting a trending tune.

  4. TAP INTO CULTURE. Make content that ladders up to something. Big moments on social are great for Instagram Reels. International Women’s Day, Earth Day, etc.

  5. TEST AND LEARN. The more Reels you create for your brand, the better you will become at creating this content. While you want it to be professional, perfect is not the goal because sometimes perfect takes to long and you lose momentum and miss out on an opportunity to participate.
